This is how an ethical hunter helped out a falconer who's bird was lost during a duck flight:

Entire story and commentary is on the www.nafex.net falconry discussion page.

Strange Day:

Took my hybrid out on a very large series of ponds. We flushed cormerants herons and egrets then finally the ducks which bailed into the larger of the two ponds. Waiting for the bird to re mount I lost sight of him( kind of unusual).

I walked back to the truck put the dogs away. and tracked him through thick brush for 45 min and this is what I found.

He ate the heart and lungs and had pulled out the stomach. The body was warm no rigor and I was confused as to what might have happened.

I drove home and noticed a note on my windshield "call me if you lost your hawk"

This is what happened. I guy was calling foxes and the likes shot the fox and a bobcat. He was packing everything up walked back to his truck which was parked close to mine. Then went back for the fox and bobcat. As he was walking he noticed a hawk flying over head then it came down trying to land on him. He got scared not knowing what to do or having a glove he tossed the fox which my tiercel went to. Hurried back to his truck and left me the note.

Bummer I thought I had a fox killer, who needs eagles.
